Yet Incomplete Radical

A good part of Japan’s life revolves around train stations. Although Japan is much better signalized now than used to be and therefore friendlier to travel, visitants from abroad may find it daunting to cope with noise from loudspeakers. Young train drivers are very dangerous because as soon as they have a mike in their hands they address passengers as if they were in a karaoke box.

One warning to "refrain from" forced upon passengers thousand of times a day is
kakekomijousha.
駆け込み乗車【かけこみじょうしゃ】means rushing to get on a train (bus, etc.) before the door closes.

Nothing wrong with using
as the first kanji of the compound 乗車 since it means “ride, board, mount (“montar” en español). The second kanji is both a kanji and the radical 159 meaning “car”. Perfect, everything fits. “Fits” if you haven’t seen “下車【げしゃ】getting off a train” before. If you have, you would assume that riding a train is written “上車”. To “top it” the 音読み of both kanji is ジョウ ショウ.

駆け(かけ) is a gem of homophony:

is a 国字 used all the time since Japan is such a crowded place. It was probably concocted out of necessity to express crowding in full.

Still want to pay Japan a visit?

takami-no-kenbutsu wo suru

I haven’t made a significantive effort to learn kanji yet, but trying to memorize one by one all the readings of Sino-Japanese characters seems like a futile task to me. I’m certain few Japanese know all (Only the 1,945 [now 2,136]) Jouyou Kanji have over 4,000 readings.). Mnemonic approaches wouldn’t work either because I’d forget both the kanji and the proposed mnemonics.

More enjoyable as a hobby seems to be singling out kanji compounds and expressions that are significative.
